2018 Wrap-Up

This year was huge for the Westside Health Collaborative as we helped coordinate several successful initiatives around public health on the Westside.

First, we launched the Multi-Tiered System of Supports for behavioral health at Harding School. This program served around 400 elementary school students by providing mental health support at three tiers: school-wide, small group, and individual. The results from this program have been profound - we’ve seen a 5% decrease of antisocial behavior patterns overall, and a nearly 20% decrease in “high-risk” external antisocial behaviors.

Second, we supported the FoodBank of SB County in their work coordinating a monthly Healthy Food Pantry at Harding School. SB ACT helped to support the FoodBank’s coordination of more than 10 health & human service providers, and introduced new partners to the program. Thanks to SB ACT’s involvement, the Westside’s own Superior Fitness gym leads exercise groups for adults and children, and the St. Francis Foundation provides a parish nurse to give A1C Diabetes screenings and general checkups. Thirdly, the academic programs of Padres Creando Sueños continued in their support of Westside families. At the end of the 2017-2018 school year we were please to announce that over 50 Harding students had received literacy support while over 15 Westside students had received one-on-one tutoring after school.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, we officially launched the Westside Health Collaborative steering committee. Comprised of over a dozen health & human service providers (see complete list below), this steering committee will begin working to develop long-term goals for sustained healthcare provision on the Westside and will serve as the hub for Westside healthcare moving forward. We are thrilled to move forward into 2019 with a stellar list of partners!
