This fall I have joined the wonderful collaborative at the Alameda Park Meal Sharing with Friends without Homes every Thursday night. My primary role is to be a support to the Westmont College Bread of Life team who host the event. Like our Pershing Park Meal Sharing – the evening’s primary focus in on friendship building and then creating a caring holistic atmosphere for our neighbors on the streets.
I love being back at the park again! My goal is to train and develop the Westmont students so that they have a grasp of how to pray for and spiritually support people on the streets, while at the same time educating them on solutions to ultimately house these men and women so they are no longer living on the streets. We average around 60 coming for the meal and 20 Westmont students coming on Thursday evening.
We also have church partners who provide the meal and engage in building relationships, Doctors Without Walls to give free medical care, and Common Ground Santa Barbara to connect individuals to local services and housing opportunities. Thanks to everyone who makes every Thursday a wonderful evening.
